コンサートホール 業務施設庁舎 修景百貨店 ビオトープ庭園 寺院 「空間」とは何でしょうか? 床があって、壁があって、窓があって、天井があって、家具が置かれて・・・それでも「空間」とは言えないかもしれません。この問いへの答えの一つとして、「音」と「音楽」の違いに喩えることができます。澄んだ音、美しい和音・・・でも、その音や和音の連なりが音楽になるとは限りません。しかし、粗末な楽器、拙い演奏であったとしても人々を感動させる音楽があります。これと同じではないでしょうか。「空間」とは、様々な構成要素による音楽のようなものと考えています。私たちは、「空間」を3つの領域に分けています。インテリア、建築、ランドスケープです。椅子やテーブルといった家具、ウインドウディスプレイやショップのインテリア、住宅やオフィス、タワーのようなモニュメンタルなものまでを扱う建築、街並や公園のように大地と自然と向き合うランドスケープ。3つの領域の関係は、扱うスケールやデザインへのアプローチの違いによって、図のような関係となっています。What is a “space?” Some would say that a space is something that has walls, windows, a roof and is fi tted with furniture… But is this really a “space?”One could use as an analogy the diff erence between “sound” and “music.” A clear sound, a beautiful chord… but the link between a sound and a chord might not necessarily be music. However, even crude instruments and clumsy perfor-mances sometimes create music that can move people. It is the same thing with spaces. A “space” is something comprised of a variety of elements, just like music.We have divided “space” into three fi elds.Interior design, architec-ture design, and landscape design.Interior design refers to furniture such as chairs and tables, window displays and shop interior design. Architecture de-sign encompasses housing, offi ces, and also large structures such as towers. Landscape design is a fi eld that deals with terrestrial mass and nature, such as streetscapes and parks.The three fi elds diff er in terms of the scale of the subject matter dealt with and their approach to design.
